Jaws "Get Out of The Water" Scene

In this classic scene of the 1975 movie "Jaws", this is one of the first scenes in the movie to start escalating the complication of the movie. This scene starts off with Martin Broody seeming concerned about the shark in the water as kids pile into the waves. As the kids run into the ocean, you hear splashing and laughter from all the children and parents in the water. The shots in the scene interested me because I saw a few of them being filmed over the shoulder of Martin seeming to always have the ocean with the kids joyfully playing in the background. That hints to the audience that something could be about to happen. During the scene the angle of being in Martins eyes makes the scene feel more realistic to the viewer about the stress and anxiety he feels when he is worried about the shark coming to attack the swimmers. My favorite part of the scene is going underwater as the shark and passing the feet swimming in the ocean. It build the intensity of the plot.

Another thing that interests me about this scene is the sounds in it. It starts off and goes about all through out the scene of having happy "beachy" music playing in the background with children laughing. Even when we going into the sharks perspective underwater you can still here the laugher of children. This is to make us remember what is going to happen to an innocent child. As the shark gets closer to the feet, the music in the background grows in speed and volume. I thought that it was a good idea to pan from the sharks perspective as the shark went to kill the kid right to above the beach to show the surroundings, and Martins prediction came true.

As the shark gets closer to the children, as I said before, the music gets louder progressively. Also I noticed that the cuts get faster and faster showing all of the action to make the viewer feel the stress and anxiety of the scene. I noticed that when this was happening even though I know what is going to happen I cannot help but get stressed myself about the people in the water having no idea what is below them.  I think that this is one of the best ways to keep your audience interested in a film because it brings so much energy to the video.
